Ordered the Neptune Chicken Schnitzel. Got 4 frozen prawns on a smallish schnitzel. Bernaise sauce was a packet sauce. Overall a pretty average meal. Dessert was the sticky date pudding. Serving size was enormous and tasted good. Should have ordered that for dinner
Dont get the Tuesday night special schnitzel. It's just the normal schnitzel cut in half... though it was tasty. But I got one 2 nights earlier and it was twice the size. Chips were cold, bearnaise sauce was old (crust on top). Salad not made to order (all dressing in a pool at the bottom of the bowl)
The six of us "out-of-towners" motorcyclists stopped here for dinner. It was terrific and Tony the publican was very hospitable. A great place for a country steak and some good vegetarian options for a couple of the ladies.
I've been all around Australia and I can honestly say this is the best pub I've ever experienced in my 25 years of service! The steaks and food are cooked to perfection and you can even cook the meat yourself if you are up for preparing your own food with some freshly cut meats! The prices are reasonable for a pub and the live music while playing some pool amongst the locals is definitely a treat. The deserts are made in house which adds to the appeal and gives the restaurant a homely feel with some great food and service! My mouth is watering while I write this review. Just do yourself a favour and visit the Red Heifer while in Mudgee!
I enjoyed my salt and pepper squid although it wasnt the best Ive ever had. My husband loved the Sunday special of slow cooked lamb shoulder with roast vegetables. The lamb was moist and tender and not too fatty. The roast vegetables were delicious! Good location in town and plenty of seating options indoors and out.
